Terranium

The app for those who find themselves in need of destressing (+ loves plants)

Terranium: Garden Idle – developed by Green Panda Games

Deadlines are approaching and you’ve procrastinated too long, but you also can’t focus because there’s too much to do and you feel overwhelmed. Why not procrastinate some more? All jokes aside, this is a great app for those who need a little destressing in your life, but don’t want to mindlessly scroll through Instagram and ‘waste time’. Why not nurture cute plants and amass a nursery in your downtime? Bonus: No stressing over whether or not you’ll kill the plants either.

To fully experience the joy of Terranium, one must download it and play it in times of need. The three tabs on the bottom are for your available “seeds”, “boosters”, and “shop”, where you can use “gems” to buy extra oxygen for your plants. Gems are accumulated over time, significantly slower than oxygen is, so it’ll take a while to accumulate enough to do anything with them.

For the most part, this game is pretty self-explanatory and you place your plants on the shelves. They expel oxygen (green bubbles) and with the oxygen you gain, you can either grow them (upgrade the plant) or use it to buy boosters.

You can also tap the plants, which gives a nice vibrate haptic feedback on your phone, to gain oxygen.

The boosters have an explanation as to what they do: increasing oxygen production for a few minutes, tapping the plants at a faster pace…etc.

Leveling up after a certain number of oxygen ‘points’ will give you more oxygen, and the cycle repeats!

There are more than enough plants to go around, and if you have unlocked all of the plant types, you have the option of planting second plants. Needless to say, the animated plants are cute and every aspect of this game was designed to be pleasant and joyful.

Needless to say, this is a very enjoyable game to play during any downtime I have, especially when I feel burnt out from doing a lot of work or studying. It puts my mind at ease and practically doesn’t require any thinking. I find this a slightly better use of my “destressing” time than scrolling through social media, something that I can do and hours seem to pass without me realizing it. Although going on this app is still using technology, no one said technology couldn’t relax a person. This app and how well made it is proves it to be highly functional and although it’s not exactly a productive app, it makes me an overall more productive person as one needs a break from time to time.
